The first day

We are here! After arriving on the evening of Sept. 3, we were greeted by the headmaster of the school, a teacher, a board member, and a couple who help with transition. They were so great and helped us get our bags. We then loaded into a jeep and headed to our home for now. We are staying with Mark and Lisa who are the transition team for the school. When we got to their house we had a snack, informed our families that we had arrived safely, chatted a bit, and went to bed. We slept okay. We had just gotten done with a long day of flying and were exhausted. We woke up around 7am (we are 9 hours ahead) and had some breakfast, homemade granola and fresh fruit. We then went with Mark to the school. Mark got everything we needed for our visas and gave us a tour of the school. It is a beautiful campus. I even got to meet my class. They are very excited for me to start teaching. There is a mom of two students at the school who has taught the first week for me and we will teach together on Monday. My class is very diverse. There are students from Rwanda, the U.S., Canada, Argentina, and all over Africa. They were very cute and appeared well behaved. I was also able to have lunch with them. The school provides lunch that is made by locals. We had spaghetti with fresh pineapple. It was delicious. After that we went with Mark to look for houses. There is one for rent a short walk to the school. We are still looking at the possibility of sharing a house, but otherwise this would be a good option. I brought all the teacher editions home to look at and prepare lesson plans with. There is a lot to be done. We cannot set up a bank account until we get our passports back with the visas. Tomorrow we may try to set up a cell phone. We are very tired and ready for some rest. Mili seems to have a lot of energy though. She spent the morning running around the school and took a nap while we were looking at houses. She had a fever on the plane ride, but that seems to have cleared up. Mark and Lisa's housekeeper made an African dinner that looks delicious. Christi's sister Trina is coming into town today and hopes to see us this evening. Then we plan to crash. Please pray that we can get some good rest, that Mili will stay healthy and the fever will not return. Also pray for our jet lag and getting everything set up with the bank, visa, cell phone, house, etc. Please pray that we will have the energy that we need to get things done and the time to rest when we need it. Please pray for Christi as she begins to find out what her life will be like here and as I prepare for and begin to teach. Thank you all for your prayer and support.
