One week down

Well, we have officially completed week one in Africa. It has been busy, tiring, and exciting. I really enjoyed teaching this week and like my class. I have a new student coming on Monday. We are really excited because we found a house to rent. It is right across the street from the school! We will be sharing it with two other single girls who teach at my school. It is sort of a split level. When you walk in our bedroom is on the main floor and across the hall is a bathroom with a shower. Upstairs are two bedrooms for the girls- Anna Bell and Rachel. Downstairs is the living room- with doors leading to the back yard and a covered porch, a dining room, and kitchen. Most houses we have looked at don't have a yard so we were excited to have a place for Mili to play. The house needs a little work so we don't know exactly when we can move in . Hopefully early next week. We also got our visas today. We can now open a bank account here tomorrow and do some shopping for our new home. That is what we have planned for tomorrow. We are also going to go out for lunch at an African buffet. All the food we have eaten here has been amazing. So far my favorites are a drink called marakuja. Not sure if that is spelled right. It is passion fruit juice that is mixed with sugar. You dilute it with water. It is really good. Another is a type of spinach that grows here and it is mixed with ground peanuts and cooked. You put it on rice. There is also a type of bread called Chipatti. It is sort of like a thick chewy tortilla. We are all starting to sleep better and get used to things. Christi started working at the school a little bit. The library needs a lot of work and she may be able to help get that going since she has some experience with that. She went to a Bible study on Tuesday and will be going to a Mom's group on the opposite Tuesdays. She is ready to be in our own place. It is great here where we are, but she is sort of stuck at home on the days she doesn't have an event. She took Mili for a walk in our hiking pack and was laughed at. They call white people Muzungus here. We hear that a lot. It is different being a minority. I'm not used to that. Well, we are going to watch a movie and then off to bed.
